A devastating attack unfolded at a bustling Christmas market in Magdeburg, eastern Germany, on Friday evening. Authorities confirmed that five people, including a toddler, have died, and 200 others sustained injuries after a car plowed through the crowded market.

Saxony-Anhalt’s governor, speaking at the scene on Saturday alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, revealed that 41 people remain critically injured, 90 seriously hurt, and 80 have minor injuries. Scholz condemned the act, describing it as "brutal" and pledged to respond with the “full strength of the law.”

Details of the Suspect

Police arrested a 50-year-old Saudi doctor, identified by local media as Taleb A., who has lived in Germany since 2006. Reports suggest he sympathized with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

Global Condemnation

World leaders, including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, have expressed their horror over the attack. Starmer called the incident an “atrocious attack.”
