Jay-Z Denies 2000 Sexual Assault Allegations Involving a 13-Year-Old and Sean 'Diddy' Combs

A woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by Sean “Diddy” Combs has revised her lawsuit to include accusations that Jay-Z also assaulted her at the same event.

The original lawsuit against Combs was filed in October, but on Sunday, the woman added Shawn Carter, known as Jay-Z, as a defendant in the civil case.

Carter is the first high-profile individual to be implicated in sexual assault allegations related to Combs.

In a statement to CNN, Carter described the allegations as “so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one! Anyone who would commit such a crime against a minor should be imprisoned, would you not agree?”

Combs has been indicted on charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and prostitution-related offenses. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges and has denied any wrongdoing in approximately 30 civil lawsuits filed against him.

The woman, referred to as Jane Doe, claims she was 13 years old when she was allegedly assaulted by Combs and Carter at an after-party following the 2000 Video Music Awards. She alleges that after consuming a drink at the party, she began to feel disoriented and entered a nearby bedroom. According to her claims, Carter raped her first, followed by Combs. The woman states that she struck Combs and fled the party, as detailed in the amended lawsuit.

Carter was initially identified in the lawsuit as Celebrity A.

NBC was the first to report on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit states that Doe’s attorneys contacted Carter to propose “mediation to resolve this matter.”

“Based on current information and belief, Jay-Z responded to this letter not only by filing a completely frivolous lawsuit but also by orchestrating a campaign of harassment, bullying, and intimidation against the Plaintiff’s lawyers, their families, employees, and former associates in an effort to silence the Plaintiff from naming Jay-Z in this case. This attempt was designed to intimidate the Plaintiff and discredit her legal representation. That effort was unsuccessful. In fact, the Plaintiff decided to file this amendment due to the egregious conduct perpetrated by Carter,” the lawsuit claims.

In his response to CNN on Sunday, addressed to Doe’s attorney, Carter labeled the mediation request as a “blackmail attempt.” He also remarked that this attorney, “who I have researched, appears to have a history of such theatrics!”

Houston-based attorney Tony Buzbee issued a statement on Saturday, asserting, “The pleading speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court.”

CNN has also reached out to Beyoncé Knowles, Jay-Z’s wife, for her comments.

Carter expressed in his statement that his “only heartbreak” is for his family: “My wife and I will have to explain to our children, one of whom is at an age where her friends will undoubtedly see the press and ask questions about these claims, the cruelty and greed of individuals. I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such experiences at their young age.”

In November, CNN reported that an anonymous male celebrity filed a lawsuit against the Texas attorney representing Doe, alleging he was a victim of an extortion scheme.

The celebrity accused Buzbee and his firm of “shamelessly attempting to extort exorbitant sums from him or else publicly file wildly false horrific allegations against him.”

Attorneys for the unnamed celebrity further claimed that Buzbee had “threatened to unleash entirely fabricated and salacious allegations of sexual assault” involving “multiple instances of rape of a minor, both male and female” if their client “refused to comply with their demands.”

Buzbee denied the extortion allegations against him in an Instagram post, stating that his firm “won’t allow the powerful and their high-priced lawyers to intimidate or silence sexual assault survivors,” and reiterated this in a statement to CNN.

“If you are trying to conceal your identity and claim you did nothing wrong, it doesn’t seem very wise to take this approach,” Buzbee told CNN in an email at the time. “We will address it in due course.”

“I am confident that with full public disclosure, all of this will resolve itself,” Buzbee stated.

On Sunday, Buzbee responded on social media to Carter’s statement, asserting that the alleged victim “never demanded a penny from him,” claiming they only sought confidential mediation. Buzbee added, “She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve.”
